Welcome to Ross Township

Ross Township, located in Greene County, Ohio, is one of the county’s twelve townships, established in 1811. It is situated in the northeastern part of the county and shares borders with Madison Township (Clark County), Stokes Township (Madison County), Jefferson Township (Fayette County), Silvercreek Township, New Jasper Township, and Cedarville Township. The township is known for its rural character and historical significance, with early settlers such as William Harpole, Joseph Butcher, David Larkin, and Josephus Atkinson playing a role in its development.

The highest point in Greene County, 1,135 feet (346 m), is located in northern Ross Township

 

• Formation of Ross Township (1811): The township was officially established and named after a pioneer settler.

 

• Development of Infrastructure: The first brick house in the township was built in 1827 by David Larkin, marking a shift from log cabins to more permanent structures.

 

• Agricultural Growth: Throughout the 19th century, Ross Township became known for its farming community, with settlers cultivating land and raising livestock.
